main cause of front load or top load stink is overuse of detergents because the user is following directions for amount used.

For the Dishwasher I learned that The best way to clean both a plastic and stainless steel tub dishwasher is to set it for a long, hot cycle such as “pots & pans” or “baked on goods”. ALLOW THE UNIT TO RUN FOR 15 MINUTES.

I didn't know this, but just as it does in a dryer, lint builds up in a washer as laundry tumbles. The soap in laundry detergent mixes with the dirt and tumbling action of a wash cycle, which causes lint to form. While a great deal of the dirt and lint rinses out of the tub and down the drain at the end of a wash cycle, some lint splashes above the splash line, sticking to the sides of the tub and attaching to the upper rim of a washer. Lint can also trap in small crevices and on the agitator of the washtub. So, you need to clean the lint from your washer regularly.

I appreciated the tip on not overusing detergent to help avoid smelly washers/laundry. We've fallen in that trap before. I also appreciated the cleaning tip for dishwashers. Gotta try that sometime. Can't hurt, but I'll have to get some white vinegar. Since I have to descale my coffee machine, this may be a good time for that.

Apparently washing in cold water all the time contributes to smelly towels and such so they recommend washing your last load of the day in hot water.

The third not-so-common reason for clothes washer smells is using mainly cold water for washing. Using mainly cold water for washing is fine… but it makes preventive maintenance very important. Do your hottest wash or soak cycle as your last cycle on wash day or as preventive maintenance to dissolve residue. If soaking very soiled articles do an extra rinse cycle.

The best way to clean both a plastic and stainless steel tub dishwasher is to set it for a long, hot cycle such as “pots & pans” or “baked on goods”. ALLOW THE UNIT TO RUN FOR 15 MINUTES. Open the door and dash in 2 cups of WHITE vinegar. Shut the door and allow the unit to complete it’s cycle.
