“For 23 years, Energizer, the IAFC and more than 6,200 fire departments have partnered to educate communities on the importance of home fire safety and having working smoke alarms,” said Jim Olsen, Vice President of Marketing for Energizer North America. “By asking for the public’s help this year, we hope to further raise awareness of the life-saving message, while also increasing the battery donation to help more community members in need avoid devastating home fire fatalities.”
Each year, Energizer donates 200,000 batteries to help local fire departments nationwide. This year everyone has the chance to help double the donations, up to 400,000 batteries. Participation is easy. Visit the CYCCYB tab on the Energizer Bunny® Facebook page, www.facebook.com/energizerbunny, and pledge to change your smoke alarm batteries, share the life-saving Change Your Clock Change Your Battery message with others and create your family’s home escape plan so you have an exit plan in place. Each action will trigger a donation of batteries.
Readers, follow my lead and replace your smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detectors when you change the time on your clock. It will take a few minutes and could save your life! Get out there and tell your friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers!

I change the batteries when the alarms' "beep" tell me that it's time...it's not good for the environment to throw away still viable batteries.
I have been changing the batteries when my alarm makes the beeping noise when the batteries are low.

I DO change the batteries when the time change happens. Two months ago, our smoke alarm was going off at 3 in the morning. There wasn't a fire in the house but rather outside....MY CAR WAS ON FIRE!!
abstractrose@yahoo.com
Mine have stickers on them with the last time the batteries were replaced and I just peek at the stickers to see if it's time to change. But your way sounds easier so I think it's time for a new routine for me!

I actually change the batteries at the beginning of summer and then around the holidays
Unfortunately we haven't got in the habit yet of changing the smoke alarm batteries when we change the clock time. It is a great idea, and one we need to act on. Up to this point, my DH just changes it when he remembers, or when the smoke detector emits a warning. jgs0925(at)gmail(dot)com
Yes we do and we also check them on our birthdays
